Capsule Geology

The Tuscarora (L.84) occurrence is located between Edison and Tuscarora creeks, at an elevation of approximately 350 metres.

The area is underlain by calcareous sediments of the Upper Triassic Vancouver Group, Parson Bay Formation which are in fault contact with Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group volcanics. The main faults strike northwest and north-northeast (Geological Survey of Canada, Map 4-1974). The Comstock Mountain granodiorite pluton, which is part of the Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite, occurs as a small, isolated pluton within Bonanza Group volcanics.

Locally, two mineralized zones, stratigraphically 45 metres apart host mineralization consists of up to 20 per cent sulphide lenses in silicified rhyolite and epidote-garnet skarn altered limy tuffs. The sulphides consist of pyrite, sphalerite, galena and bornite. Chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite are also reported in the area (Assessment Report 7981).

In 1971, a 3.0 metre section, traced over a minimum distance of 27 metres, contains 2.0 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 3165, page 11). In 1998, a grab sample from a 1.0 metre wide fracture zone yielded 0.26 per cent copper, 3.77 per cent zinc and 5.6 grams per tonne silver; other samples yielded up to 6.4 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 25797). In 1999, select grab samples yielded greater than 10 per cent zinc with copper values from 0.1 to 0.3 per cent and up to 7.3 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 26040).

Work History

The area has been explored in conjunction with the Yreka (MINFILE 092L 052) mine and was first staked in 1898. In 1970 and 1971, Green Eagle Mines completed programs of airborne electromagnetic and magnetic geophysical surveys, rock and soil sampling and ground magnetic survey on the area. In 1972, Iso Explorations completed a program of ground geophysical surveys, geological mapping and soil sampling. In 1979, Uke Resources completed 3 diamond drill holes, totalling 90 metres. In 1998 and 1999, Talltree Resources completed programs of rock and soil sampling, geological mapping and a ground electromagnetic survey on the area. During 2015 through 2019, Karmamount Mineral Exploration Inc. completed minor programs of geological mapping and geochemical (rock and soil) and biogeochemical sampling and a 12.9 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the area as the Yreka property.
